What we process

Nothing. L'Alfred is free, open source, and runs on your own ElevenLabs API key: the audio you record goes straight from your Mac to ElevenLabs and the transcript comes straight back. It does not pass through a server of ours, and the app collects no analytics or usage data.

Audio and transcript retention

Each recording is written to a temporary file on your Mac, uploaded to ElevenLabs, and deleted as soon as the transcript returns. The transcript is pasted at your cursor and is never written to disk.

What stays on your Mac

Your API key is stored in the macOS Keychain. Your dictionary words, snippets, shortcuts, sounds and preferences are stored in the app's local settings. You can erase all of it from the app.

Provider

Speech-to-text is performed by ElevenLabs (Scribe v2), under your own account and their terms: ElevenLabs Privacy Policy.

Optional sign-in and updates

The app offers an optional Google sign-in; you do not need it to dictate, and signing in only stores your account email locally. The app also checks our release feed for updates, which sees your IP address like any other download.
